Inspired by Quilts for winter coming
Posted on Tuesday 6th September 2011
QuiltingQuilting plays such an important role, in creative textile, folk-art, popular, and literary culture...
In this post im looking at various images and web links on quilting techniques and its history as i intend to run a fortnightly women's Quilt class in Hackney at the venue Open the gate (information soon to appear on blog updates)...
Please Check out these images found on the
internet...inspired by quilting..They are so pretty, the colours
combinations, shapes, patterns and different textures.......yummy like
sweets
Here are some really good quilting links:
African American Quilting and
The History of Quilts
The weather is changing and slowly our jackets are creeping back on here in London town.... time to get quilting, i love this picture above...

African and European Americans were quilting in order to provide warm
blankets for their families, to record family history, to represent personal and religious journeys
and beliefs, to spend time together as women, and to be creative as individuals in a form that
gave them recognition, status, and often material reward in a commercial sphere often occupied
only by men

Re-using all our scraps and left over cloth can really help the environment and also minimize our own waste ...

Attributes of quilting : large shapes, strong colour, asymmetry,
improvisation, multiple patterning, applique and record keeping,
religious symbols and protective charms...

old style vintage fashion

I often think about fashion and what it means to our everyday lives! I tend not to buy high st fashion apart from the odd shoes and accessories. Everything is so fast and there is so much mass consumption...What happened to the days when we sat at sewing machines mending or making clothes...We should buy unique special items of clothing which we can treasure and buy less throw away fashion....whilst being creative and making for ourselves again....time to invest in a sewing machine if you haven't already.. xxx
